Ssali Yusuf – Biography

Ssali Yusuf started working as a full-time artist in 2003 at his personal studio in Kampala, while he was a student of Makerere University in Uganda’s capital. Ssali graduated in 2006 and has since refined his art, while pursuing a professional career as a painter.

Ssali Yusuf has participated in various art exhibitions locally at the famous Tulifanya Art Gallery since 2005 in Kampala as well as the Afriart Gallery since 2007.

Other exhibitions took place at the Makerere Art Gallery in 2004, the German Embassy in Kampala in 2008, the US Embassy 2010-2012, and many others. Ssali also participated in various art events like the Annual Street Art festival in Kampala, and several Kenyan Art Galleries, of which Banana Hill Art Gallery is but one.

The artist has also participated in various art workshops and art residences both locally and internationally. Most of these were, in one way or another, involvements for “the greater good”. Ssali invested his time working with school children, street kids as well as with widows and HIV/Aids sufferers.

Universities and organisations regularly invite Ssali Yusuf over for lectures and workshops. Even corporate companies ask Ssali to come talk to staff, to inspire their creative energies, which has been roven to enhance productivity through joy at work and by opening up the minds of employees to the vast opportunities they have in their hands.

Ssali has won various prizes won in art competitions and publications.
