Andrew Kamondia – Biography

Andrew Kamondia wa Gathigi is a former farmer, sign writer and batik from Wangige whose first paintings were bought by Gallery Watatu’s Ruth Schaffner while he was still a farm Manager at Red Hill.

Mentored by Ruth, Kamondia attended several Watatu Foundation Workshops where he met Shine Tani and went on to become a founder member of Banana Hill Art Studio. Wining the East Africa Industries award for paintings in the mid 1990s, Kamondia’s art has been exhibited all over America and Europe, Africa and parts of Asia.
